From the premises of the Military Academy, Defence Minister Radmila Shekerinska informed the public that today the Contract has been signed for the purchase of about 7,200 pairs of boots for each member of the Army, which marks a significant progress in the status of the personal equipment for each Macedonian soldier, NCO and officer.
“Today I signed the agreement whereby the Army of the Republic of Macedonia will provide new military boots literally for each of its members. Such a procurement of a total quantity that will go literally to every soldier in the Army has not been realized before. The last time military boots were procured was with a contract in 2012, but even then for less than half of the members of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia. We began this process at the very beginning of the year, through a transparent procedure, with technical dialogue with the chance for all companies to participate. The contract ensures that the members of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia will no longer have to say they will be an army in NATO, but will not have new boots. Today, we are showing that NATO membership is not only a political goal, but that NATO membership is a chance for the Macedonian Army to function better, and its members will have better working conditions”, the Minister said.
The purchase is in the total value of around 650,000 Euros and according to the rules of the open call, the full delivery should be realized within 90 days – the Minister informed.
Shekerinska reminded that this year a 15 percent increase in the defence budget was provided, salaries of all members of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia were increased and money was provided for full compliance with the collective agreements and full payment of all per-diems for 24-hour shifts.
“It is indeed a pleasure to confirm that we are seeing progress in the part that was most criticized in the past period, and that is the personal equipment for every member of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia. Today we are showing that we keep our word when it comes to the most basic and most important parts of the equipment and the security of the members of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia”, the Minister said.
In the Goce Delchev barracks Minister Shekerinska participated in the first academic class, where she wished a successful beginning of the new academic year to the cadets and students of the Military Academy.
