Meeting of Jolevski – McGuire: Mutual agreement on the training of young officers, key to the future of the Army of Republic of Macedonia

On the meeting with the Deputy Commanding General of the United States Army Europe, Major General Timothy McGuire, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Macedonia, Zoran Jolevski, emphasized the excellent cooperation and partnership with the United States in the field of defence. He added that the joint participation in exercises, as well as the participation in peacekeeping missions, such as the “Resolute Support” mission in Afghanistan, are proof of the partnership between the two countries. Minister Jolevski expressed particular satisfaction with the possibility of joint exercises in Macedonia of the elite units of the US with the Special Operations Regiment of the ARM, activities that arise from the excellent established cooperation with the US Special Forces Command in Europe.

On this occasion Major General McGuire welcomed the decision of Minister Jolevski to send young officers that will be future leaders and decision makers in the Army. General McGuire informed Jolevski that a Macedonian cadet was admitted to the Military Aviation Academy in Colorado for this year as well. The interlocutors also expressed their willingness to further intensify the cooperation that will contribute to creating a strong generation of young officers – leaders.
On the meeting they discussed the possibilities of utilization of the capacities of the Military Range Krivolak and holding joint exercises there between the ARM and US Army Europe.

They also discussed the contribution of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia in peacekeeping missions and the future plans for further engagement in missions supported by the United Nations, which are expected to begin in the second half of this year.

During the day Major General McGuire will also meet with the Chief of General Staff of the ARM, Lieutenant General Metodija Velichkovski, and then a working meeting will be held by the working groups with regard to the training and future exercises with the US Army Europe.
