Meeting of Minister Shekerinska with Ambassador Tülin Erkal Kara: Turkey continuously supports Macedonia in NATO integrations

“The Republic of Macedonia highly appreciates the continued support of the Republic of Turkey, beginning with our recognition as an independent state, through the support for integration in NATO and other structures, to the excellent cooperation in the defence. This support was crucial in the most difficult moments for us and it is still visible today”, stressed Defence Minister Radmila Shekerinska on today’s meeting with the Ambassador of Turkey to Macedonia, H.E. Tülin Erkal Kara.

On the meeting Minister Shekerinska expressed gratitude for the financial support that has so far reached over 20 million dollars. “For us training opportunities are also important for ARM members in Turkish military educational institutions, as well as the participation of the ARM within the Turkish contingents”, the Minister said and expressed hope that this good cooperation will continue in the future as well.

“We appreciate the stability of Macedonia, which is very important for the stability of the entire Balkans. From the aspect of stability and prosperity, Turkey attaches great importance to the relations with the Republic of Macedonia”, Ambassador Kara said. She added that Turkey is one of Macedonia’s permanent supporters in NATO integrations and voiced hope that the new Government will bring stability.

Turkey and Macedonia have been cooperating in the field of defence since 1994. So far, about 700 members of the Army of the Republic of Macedonia have been sent to the military schools in Turkey for education and professional development. The countries also cooperate on a regional level, such as the South Eastern Defence Ministerial – SEDM.
