Deputy Minister of Defence Bekim Maksuti donated blood at today’s Blood and Food Drive organized at the US Embassy in Skopje on the occasion of the US National Day of Service and Remembrance. On that occasion, Deputy Minister underlined that there is no better response to heinous acts, such as the terrorist attacks 16 years ago in the United States, than the unity in the message that our humanity and unity are greater than any threat to common values.
The Deputy Minister expressed his sincere condolences to the American citizens and families affected by the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks on the twin towers in New York. He added that, as every year, numerous volunteers from the Army of the Republic of Macedonia are participating in this event and donate blood for those in need, which is yet another affirmation of the strategic partnership between Macedonia and the United States and our commitment to its even greater development in as many fields as possible.
The National Day of Service and Remembrance began to be observed in 2002 through charity events aiming to honour the victims, survivors and all those who helped deal with the consequences of the 11 September attacks. This event takes place throughout the day, from 09.00-16.00 hrs. It is organized in cooperation with the Red Cross of the City of Skopje and the Institute of Transfusion Medicine and, as the US Embassy points out, all potential donors are welcome.
